433South Korea has successfully exported its premium beef, Hanwoo, to Cambodia for the first time, marking a significant milestone in eight years of quarantine negotiations.
The breakthrough came after years of discussions that began in 2015 and saw it become the third country, after Hong Kong and Malaysia, to receive Hanwoo exports.
This also marks the first time Hanwoo has entered a market in the Mekong River Basin.
The South Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced the achievement on Tuesday, highlighting the potential of Cambodia as a lucrative market for Hanwoo beef.
Cambodia is already the largest export market for Japanese Wagyu beef, making it an ideal destination to expand South Korea’s presence in Southeast Asia.
GIBON, a company specializing in Hanwoo exports, is capitalizing on this opportunity and has revealed its ambitious plans for the Cambodian market. The company aims to establish strong collaborations with the local workforce and establish processing units in Cambodia.
